A Further Interest Rate Cut by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB)
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points, bringing it down to 7.50%. This decision by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) aligns with market expectations, driven by declining inflation. Four committee members supported the rate cut, while two favored keeping rates unchanged.
South Africa’s most recent inflation data, recorded at 3.0% in December, remains significantly below the SARB’s target midpoint of 4.5%.
